Day 4: June 20, Twenty Ten
Destination: Rapid City, South Dakota (elevation 3,202 feet) - Cody Wyoming (elevation 5016 ft)
Distance: 391 MilesNational Forests Visited: Bighorn National Forest
Today we went to my Grandma Richards sister's 90th birthday party. This was the reason we went on this trip. She is my grandma's older sister. We had Brunch at her Ranch and visited with the family. It was fun to talk to and meet new relatives. The rest of the day was a lot of driving. We stopped in Sturgis, South Dakota at the Harley Davidson store just for fun. We also ate at the McDonald's there. It was Father's Day today, so I guess that was Ryan's treat....McDonald's at Sturgis....
The drive through Bighorn National Forest was beautiful. There was a severe thunderstorm warning so I was a little nervous about that. There were people riding on their Harleys right through the storm...crazy people... it looked really cold! There was also snow at the top of the forest! The highest pass, Powder River Pass is 9,677 ft above see level! Beautiful Country but Long Drive.
